There are essentially two types of Country Club memberships: equity and non-equity. An equity membership means the members are the owners of the facility; the buildings, the land, everything. Hence the equity members make the consequential decisions about the club because they are the owners. All decisions are in the hands of the membership. Non-equity memberships do not have this benefit. They simply get to use the facilities available and have to adhere to the club's established decisions. The club is generally run by a board or a 3rd party. Sometimes clubs have both equity and non-equity members. This means that all decisions are made by the equity members and the non-equity members simply get to use the facility and adhere to the decisions made by the equity members.
